Namibia: Namib-Naukluft National Park

The Namib (desert) - Naukluft (mountain range) is over 19,000 square miles and the largest game park in Africa.  The orange color of the dunes comes from oxidized iron - the deeper the orange, the older the dune. Some dunes are almost 1,000 feet tall.
After searching for a desert beetle, we drove through the now dry Tsauchab river bed to Sossusvlei.

While we enjoyed cookies and coffee under Camel Thorn Acacia trees filled with birds, Kathryn and Sue hiked over another dune to view the "Big Daddy" dune and trees that had been dead for 500 years.
Then it was back to camp by dusk.
